Short Thoughts on Marriage and Immigration
Thank you all for visiting our website. Hope all is well.
We recently received two phone calls from U.S. citizens (who were not our clients) asking how our office can help them withdraw their already-approved petitions so that their spouses' green cards would be cancelled.. obviously their marriages were breaking down. We had to tell them we could not be of any help because, above all, we are not in the position to help "revoke" immigration benefits that have already been given.
Well, we just wanted to make two simple points:
1) Getting married only for immigration purposes has never been, and will never be, a good idea, and it is getting more and more difficult to get around USCIS's scrutiny;
2) Once you have entered into a good faith, bona fide marriage, your petition or any type of assistance with regard to your spouse's immigration should not be used as a leverage to work things out your way.
Thanks again, and please let us know if you have any questions.
