Interview at U.S. Embassy abroad
When you sponsor your spouse/fiancé(e) abroad and an interview is scheduled at a U.S. Embassy, we receive an interview notice letter stating the date of the interview and what documents s/he needs to bring to the interview. Many of those letters state that petitioner's (your) birth certificate, marriage certificate, or divor...ce decree are not necessary.
However, recent interviews reveal that despite what the letter says, some interviewing officers do require those documents, which delays the visa issuance process by at least 2-4 weeks.
Therefore, please obtain your birth certificate, marriage certificate, AND divorce decree, ALL IN ORIGINAL OR CERTIFIED COPIES, and send them to your spouse/fiancé(e) in time for the interview—no matter what the letter says and no matter whether those documents have already been submitted!
