Overview

You are already in USA with non-immigrant(temporary) visa, you can either extend your status, or change your non-immigrant status, or you can adjust your status to that of immigrant (permanent) status and become a permanent resident under some circumstance.  Changing your status to that of another non-immigrant status is called, Change of status. Changing your non-immigrant status to that of immigrant status is called, adjustment of status.
